A claim that racist chants were directed against England players during their opening game of Euro 2024 on Sunday is being looked into by Uefa. After England’s 1-0 triumph, the governing body declared it would launch a disciplinary investigation regarding “alleged discriminatory behaviour”. Although the identity of the complainant is unknown, it is believed that they were not affiliated with the England team. It is known that observers from the anti-discrimination organization Fare were present at the Arena AufSchalke for the Group C match in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. In the meantime, Uefa has charged the Serbian Football Association for allegedly throwing objects during the match.
“Transmitting a provocative message unfit for a sports event” is another charge against the defendant. A complaint on the “display of flags, slogans and chants by Serbian fans” that it said carried “political and racist messages against Kosovo” has been filed, according to the Kosovo Football Federation, with Uefa. The Uefa Control, Ethics and Disciplinary organization (CEDB) will make a decision on the issue in due time, according to the organization that oversees European football.
