Elaine Thompson-Herah, a five-time Olympian from Jamaica, has decided not to defend her 200-meter championship in the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris. The 31-year-old will still run in the 100m but has decided not to participate over the distance at the next Jamaican trials. It appears like Thompson-Herah hurt himself during the 100 meters in the NYC Grand Prix earlier this month. She holds the record for the second-fastest time in the history of the 100 meters, and when she won the 100 and 200 meters in Tokyo 2020, she became the first female to win two consecutive Olympic sprint doubles. Thompson-Herah fired coach Shanikie Osbourne in November and hired Reynaldo Walcott, who also oversees Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, her teammate from Jamaica. August 1–11 is when the athletics competitions at the Paris Olympics take place.
